The Mastercard Foundation (MCF) recently launched their Young Africa Works (YAW) programme in Kenya which sees them partnering with Kenya Commercial Bank Foundation (KCBF) amongst other

organisations. YAW targets the creation of 30 million jobs in Africa over then next five years, and this means 5 million jobs in Kenya. (https://mastercardfdn.org/young-africa-works-in-kenya- to-connect-millions-of-young-people-to-dignified-work/).

Gearbox is a sub-awardee of this project through the Kenya Commercial Bank Foundation (KCBF). KCBF designed and executed an aggressive programme branded “2JIAJRI”, in which Gearbox has been a partner for over a year specifically training jua-kali artisans in the sheet metal and carpentry sectors. 2jiajiri’s early success drew the attention of MCF and it was selected as one of the pilot projects under the Africa wide banner “YOUNG AFRICA WORKS”, launched by the President earlier this year.
