Gearbox Lite Update - The Workshop

It’s been many months since our last update on our buildout status. Since then, the bulk of our equipment has been installed and is ready to use. We’ve been testing things, making things, and writing training manuals. We’ve been working with a small cohort of companies whom we invited into the space to help us try everything out. Now, we’re just about ready to start accepting new members, so here’s a glimpse at what the Gearbox community will be up to! As a Gearbox member, you will have access to all the tools and equipment necessary for:

  • PCB fabrication (wet and dry processes)
    • Screen printing/stencil making
    • Spray etching
    • Contour routing, milling, and drilling
  • Electronics assembly and testing
    • Soldering and rework stations
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Power supplies
    • Pick and place
    • Reflow oven
  • Housing/enclosure and mechanical fabrication
    • 3D printers
    • Laser cutter
    • 4-axis CNC mill
    • 3-axis CNC plasma cutter/wood router
    • Welding booth (MIG and arc)
    • Manual mill and lathe
    • Shear, brake, and roll
    • Band saw, drill press, belt sander, bench grinder
    • Vacuum former
    • A wide variety of pneumatic and hand tools

Plus much more! This video gives you a quick walkthrough of the space and some of the tools (note: the space is still under construction and lots of things are being reorganized – a few of the tool stations mentioned above are unfinished in the video).

The tools, equipment, and processes available at Gearbox Lite have been designed after many months of consultation with local and international product designers, prototyping labs, incubators, accelerators, and makerspaces, specifically to support hardware entrepreneurs. If you have an idea for a new product, come see if you can build it at Gearbox!

(The next post will explain all about how to become a member and gain access to the powerful tools and resources available at Gearbox Lite.)
